It is with great sadness the museum announces the passing of our long-time friend and volunteer Dr. Jim Tent. Jim joined the museum team in February 2011 after moving to Frederick. Over the years he has acted as a guide, speaker, and greeter. He will be fondly remembered throughout the area for his remarkably accurate and beloved portrayal of Thomas Nast’s “Civil War Santa Claus.”
His devotion to history and the story of Civil War medicine will leave a lasting mark at the museum. Jim remains among the most knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate people we have had the pleasure of knowing.
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine will be closing on Sunday, July 15th at 3:30PM for staff and volunteers to attend a memorial in honor of Jim. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
