Dr. Edward Forman Taylor – US Army Surgeon
Born: May 10, 1830, in Middletown, New Jersey
Served: Surgeon 3rd New Jersey Militia starting April 1861; 1st New Jersey Infantry, served at Camp Parole near Annapolis, Maryland until June 24, 1864
Died: December 10, 1909
Surgeon Taylor was taken prisoner at Stone Church during the First Battle of Bull Run because he refused to leave his patients, who were badly wounded and could not be evacuated. He was released two months later in a state of poor health and later served at Camp Parole, Maryland. After the war Taylor was unable to practice medicine due to ill health related to his time as a prisoner of war.
