Guided Tours of the Pry House Field Hospital Museum
Learn about the impact of the Battle of Antietam on the Pry family and how emergency medicine evolved during the Civil War.
Join the National Museum of Civil War Medicine for guided tours of the Pry House on Antietam National Battlefield every Saturday at 1:00 PM from May 4 through November 30. The house became a headquarters and a hospital during the bloodiest single day in American history – September 17, 1862. As the Battle of Antietam raged, decisions were made on this historic property that shaped the lives of soldiers, surgeons, and civilians.
Our guided tours will explore the history of the house and the impact of the battle on civilians, especially the Pry family. The Pry House hosted the commander of the Army of the Potomac General George B. McClellan and served as headquarters for the Medical Department under Major Jonathan Letterman, Medical Director of the Army of the Potomac. Following the battle, President Lincoln paid a visit to the Pry house.
The program will begin inside the Pry House Field Hospital Museum at 1:00 PM every Saturday beginning on May 4, 2019. The guided tour is included with $5 admission to the Pry House Field Hospital Museum.
