The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is open by appointment only beginning on February 1, 2021. (Click here for more information)

Last admittance to the galleries at 4:15 PM

The Museum is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and at 2 pm on New Year’s Eve.

Museum reopening information

The Museum will be open at reduced capacity.

Masks will be *required* for entry to the Museum per guidance from the State of Maryland.

All Museum visitors are encouraged to maintain social distance within the galleries – staff will be assisting to prevent crowding within the Museum.

Directions

I-70 from Baltimore  
Take Exit 54, East Street/Downtown. Turn left onto E. Patrick Street (one-way). Museum is on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left immediately past the Museum.

 I-70 from Hagerstown  
Take Exit 54, East Street/Downtown, and left on E. Patrick Street (one-way). Museum is 1 1/2 blocks on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left, immediately past the Museum.

I-270 from Washington, DC
North on I-270, then take I-70 East towards Baltimore. Take Exit 54 to East Street/Downtown. Then take a left on E. Patrick Street (one-way). Museum is 1 1/2 blocks on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left, immediately past the Museum.

Route 15 from Gettysburg

Route 15/340 from Harpers Ferry and Leesburg
Take Route 15 North/340 East toward Frederick. Then take I-70 East towards Baltimore. Take Exit 54, East Street/Downtown. Turn left on E. Patrick Street. Museum is 1 1/2 blocks on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left, immediately past the Museum.

Parking

Parking Garage
The Carroll Creek Parking Deck is located directly behind the Museum. To access it, turn left immediately after passing the Museum on East Patrick Street.
The Museum does not validate parking.

Metered On-Street Parking
Metered parking is available near the Museum. These meters have a two hour limit.
These meters can be paid for with coins or through the Park Mobile App.

Accessibility

We welcome all visitors, and will work to meet your diverse needs. The exhibits are accessible by both stairs and elevator.

While we love animals, only service animals are permitted inside the exhibits. However, dogs are welcomed in the Museum store.

Museum Guidelines

  • Food and drink are prohibited in the galleries.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Photography is welcome, just turn off your flash.
  • We ask that you please silence your cell phones while in the galleries.
  • For security reasons, the activities in the galleries are recorded.
