Join us on Friday, June 19 at 1:00 PM on Facebook Live for a virtual program hosted by the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. You can tune in live by visiting facebook.com/civilwarmed/live at the scheduled time.

Director of Interpretation Jake Wynn will have a conversation with historian Ron Coddington about his forthcoming book on Civil War nurses. Send us your questions in advance on Facebook or by email (jake.wynn@civilwarmed.org) and tune in to the Museum’s Facebook page for what is sure to be a fascinating conversation. During this FREE program, you’ll hear about different aspects of healthcare on the front lines and in hospitals during the most destructive conflict in our nation’s history that continues impact us today. We are here to answer your questions about Civil War medical care!

Ron Coddington purchased his first historic photo in 1977 From then on, collecting historic images would become a lifelong pursuit. Over time, he focused his collection on Civil War era cartes de visite, a paper format popular during the 1860s. In 2004, a collection of articles became part of Ron’s first book, Faces of the Civil War: An Album of Union Soldiers and Their Stories. A companion volume, Faces of the Confederacy: An Album of Southern Soldiers and Their Stories, followed in 2008. Four years later, the publication of African American Faces of War: An Album marked the third book in the series. A fourth volume, Faces of the Civil War Navies: An Album of Union and Confederate Sailors, was released in 2016. All are published by The Johns Hopkins University Press. His next volume will profile the lives and contributions of nurses and other caregivers.
