Battle of Antietam Anniversary Weekend
September 17, 2016 - September 18, 2016
Join us at the Pry House for the 154th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam
On the weekend of September 17-18, 2016, the Pry House Field Hospital Museum is hosting numerous activities highlighting the 154th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam.
The Blue and Gray Hospital Association will be on-site between 11AM – 5 PM on both Saturday and Sunday providing living history programs about medical operations during the Battle of Antietam. The Blue and Gray Hospital Association is a medical living history unit founded in 2012 to deliver educational programs for the public at various historic sites around the country.
Candle Lit Tour
On the evening of September 17 at 7:00 PM, staff from the museum will lead a candle-lit walking tour of the Pry House and adjoining property. During the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862, the Pry House hosted numerous members of the Union Army’s high command and medical team. Immediately after the battle, the Pry family’s barn became a field hospital serving hundreds of wounded soldiers, while the house became refuge for two seriously wounded generals.
Led by historian Jake Wynn, the tour will focus on the property’s vital role in the bloodiest day in American history, the response of civilians like the Pry family, and the nightmarish aftermath of battle. This will be a “pay-what-you-please” experience unlike any other on Antietam National Battlefield.
The following afternoon, September 18 at 3 PM, the musical duo Evergreen Shade will play a free concert on the porch of the Pry House overlooking the garden. Mrs. Robert Howard and Dr. John Tole will play Civil War-era tunes that would have likely been played in the encampments on and around the Pry property.
