The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is located
in downtown Frederick, Maryland
and operates on Antietam National Battlefield
as the Pry House Field Hospital Museum


The National Museum of Civil War Medicine main location is at 48 East Patrick Street in Frederick, Maryland.  During the Civil War, Frederick, a busy crossroads on America's first National Road and first railroad, was witness to three Confederate invasions, thirty-eight skirmishes and two major battles (South Mountain and Monocacy) as hundreds of thousands of Northern and Southern soldiers marched through the community. Frederick epitomized the tragedy, turmoil and sacrifice that attended four desperate years of fighting.

Today, Frederick continues to be a crossroads of the Civil War. Like the commanders of the great armies of the North and South, modern visitors can use Frederick as their "headquarters" as they explore the nearby battlefields. Each new visitor will discover a fascinating downtown neighborhood that has kept continuity with its Civil War past.

GETTING THERE:
Directions to 48 East Patrick Street

I-70 from Baltimore: Take Exit 56, Route 144 West (E. Patrick Street). Proceed 1.6 miles. Museum is on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left immediately past the Museum.


I-70 from Hagerstown: Take Exit 54, north on Route 355. Turn right on E. South Street, left on S. Carroll Street, and left on E. Patrick Street. Museum is 1 1/2 blocks on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left, immediately past the Museum.

I-270 from Washington, D.C.: North on I-270, take Route 15 North at the 15/I-70 split. Take the South Jefferson Street exit (Route 340 East). Proceed about 0.7 miles on S. Jefferson Street, turn right on W. South Street, left on S. Carroll Street, and left on E. Patrick Street. Museum is 1 1/2 blocks on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left, immediately past the Museum.

Route 15 from Gettysburg: South on Route 15 to Exit 13A (Route 144 East, Patrick Street). Proceed about 0.4 miles on Route 144 East, which becomes W. South Street. Take left on S. Carroll Street, and left on E. Patrick Street. Museum is 1 1/2 blocks on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left, immediately past the Museum.

Route 15/340 from Harpers Ferry and Leesburg: Take Route 15 North/340 East toward Frederick. Once in Frederick, do not turn off for Route 15 N, but continue into town on Jefferson Street. Proceed about 0.7 miles on Jefferson Street, turn right on W. South Street, left on S. Carroll Street, and left on E. Patrick Street. Museum is 1 1/2 blocks on the left (48 E. Patrick Street). The entrance to a public parking garage is on the left, immediately past the Museum.

        Pry House Field Hospital Museum, Antietam National Battlefield

The National Museum of Civil War Medicine's second site, the Pry House Field Hospital Musuem,  is located in the Philip Pry House on the Antietam National Battlefield.  The Pry House is located at 18906 Shepherdstown Pike (MD Rout 34) between Sharpsburg and Keedysville, Maryland.
The Pry House field Hospital Museum is open daily June-October; and weekends only during May and November.  Hours of operation are 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  Admission is free, however a $2.00 donation per person is suggested.  For more information call 301-695-1864.
