![]() The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is located
in downtown Frederick, Maryland and operates on Antietam National Battlefield as the Pry House Field Hospital Museum The National Museum of Civil War Medicine main location is at 48 East Patrick Street in Frederick, Maryland. During the Civil War, Frederick, a busy crossroads on America's first National Road and first railroad, was witness to three Confederate invasions, thirty-eight skirmishes and two major battles (South Mountain and Monocacy) as hundreds of thousands of Northern and Southern soldiers marched through the community. Frederick epitomized the tragedy, turmoil and sacrifice that attended four desperate years of fighting.
Today, Frederick continues to be a crossroads of the Civil War. Like the commanders of the great armies of the North and South, modern visitors can use Frederick as their "headquarters" as they explore the nearby battlefields. Each new visitor will discover a fascinating downtown neighborhood that has kept continuity with its Civil War past. ![]() Route 15/340 from Harpers Ferry and Leesburg: Take Route 15 North/340 East toward Frederick.
