The Return of SawBones Walking Tour
July 28 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT| Pay-What-You-Please
Explore the incredible Civil War history in Downtown Frederick with the Executive Director of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.
Join NMCWM Executive Director David Price on 3 PM at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine for a special edition of the museum’s “One Vast Hospital” walking tour. Attendees will learn about the most trying moment in the city’s history. After the Battle of Antietam in the fall of 1862, 8,000 wounded soldiers were delivered by ambulance to make-shift hospitals throughout Frederick. From the diaries and letters of the surgeons, soldiers, and civilians who were there, this guided walking tour will explore the locations of the city’s Civil War hospitals in churches, schools, and public buildings.
But that’s not all! At the conclusion of the tour, to celebrate its release, attendees will receive a complementary round of SawBones beer. SawBones is based on a 19th century recipe and named after Civil War surgeons – the same surgeons who cared for wounded soldiers in Frederick. To receive your complementary SawBones, you must RSVP with John Lustrea at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 301-695-1864.
This is a “pay-what-you-please” tour and will begin at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine at 48 E. Patrick Street in Downtown Frederick. The tour will gather in the lobby.
