Living Historians Workshop 1

The NMCWM will host its Third Annual Civil War Medicine Living Historians Workshop on Saturday, March 8, 2014. The workshop is an all-day symposium on the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to provide quality living history programs to the public, specifically focused on medicine during the Civil War. The event is a resource for experienced reenactors as well as those who are interested in joining the community of education through living history.

This year’s workshop will take a particular focus on portraying and interpreting support groups that ministered the needs of soldiers, both temporal and spiritual, including military chaplains and the United States Christian Commission. While not directly medical, the work of these groups was so deeply interwoven with that of surgeons and nurses that the full story of Civil War medicine cannot be told without them.

Sessions will be hosted by members of the Blue and Gray Hospital Association, as well as other veteran living historians and interpreters. Registration for the workshop is $60 for non-members of the Museum and $50 for members and active volunteers. The fee includes morning refreshments and lunch in the afternoon.
