DESCRIPTION:<p>Steve French will chronicle\, <em>Imboden’s Brigade in the G
 ettysburg Campaign</em> from his 2008 award winning book.  John Daniel Imb
 oden\, a native of Staunton\, Virginia\; taught school at the Virginia Ins
 titute for the Education of the Deaf\, Dumb and Blind as well as practicin
 g law in his home town before the war.  He originally served as captain of
  the Staunton Artillery from April 19\, 1861 through the Battle of First M
 anassas where he was wounded.  He continued his military career by organiz
 ing a battalion of partisan rangers\, the 62<sup>nd</sup> Virginia Mounted
  Infantry.  Promoted to Brigadier General in January of 1863\; he commande
 d 3\,400 men through northwestern Virginia who laid waste to rail bridges 
 and captured $100\,000 worth of Federal animals and supplies.  His finest 
 moment occurred during the Confederate retreat from Gettysburg\; trapped b
 y flooding waters on the Potomac River at Williamsport\, Maryland\; he suc
 cessfully protected the wagon train and repulsed Union advances without si
 gnificant loss.  Mr. French illustrates the tale of the harrowing retreat 
 from Gettysburg through torrential rains\, bad roads and Union Cavalry att
 acks with projected images of significant sites along the retreat taken be
 fore development altered the countryside.  Mr. French is the author of sco
 res of Civil War related articles and book reviews for <em>The Washington 
 Times</em>\, <em>Gettysburg Magazine</em>\, <em>North & South Magazine</em
 > among others He is a frequent guest lecturer throughout the lower Shenan
 doah Valley\, Potomac Highlands and along the Confederate retreat route fr
 om Gettysburg. Delaplaine Room doors open at 7:00pm.  The one hour lecture
  starts at 7:30pm. First come first serve\, reservations are not accepted.
